This is an independent guide, not a government office. We are not Orange County Government, the Orange County Department of Mental Health, or NYS OPWDD, and we cannot determine eligibility or enrol anyone in a program. For official help call the county Developmental Disabilities Services Division on 845‑291‑2600 or see orangecountyny.gov.

Accessibility

Accessibility

This site is for people with developmental disabilities, their families and the people who support them, so it should be usable by everyone who comes to it.

What has been done

  • Body text is set in Atkinson Hyperlegible, a typeface designed by the Braille Institute to be easier to read with low vision
  • Text and background colours are chosen to meet WCAG AA contrast
  • Every page works by keyboard, with a visible focus outline and a skip-to-content link
  • Headings are properly nested so screen readers can navigate by structure
  • Text reflows to narrow screens and can be zoomed without breaking the layout
  • Motion is minimal and respects the reduce-motion setting in your operating system
  • Link text describes where it goes, rather than saying "click here"

Known limits

Some documents we link to are PDFs published by the county or the state. We do not control those files and cannot guarantee they are tagged for screen readers. If you need one in another format, the publishing office can usually provide it, and the county's own accessibility contact is on orangecountyny.gov.
